South Ram River Heli Fishing
Helicopter into one of the most incredible cutthroat rivers in western Canada. Fly into the deep remote canyon of the South Ram River, one of the last untapped rivers in the west.
< Previous Page

We would like to offer our customers a unquie opportunity to fish one of the last remote rivers in Alberta, the South Ram River. The Ram River drainage originates from the Canadian Rockies in Banff National Park and as the Ram flows east thru mountain valleys and meadows it reachs the foothills of the rockies where it branches into different tributaries. Here is where the South Ram begins as it cuts its way thru the canyon walls similar to parts of Yellowstone. The South Ram wind's its way down beneath canyon walls of over 1000 ft. in parts for approximately 30 km's where it joins back up with other tributaries and then into the Saskatchewan River system. This section of the Ram is the most unaccessable part of the river with the most productive Cutthroat Trout fishing in Alberta.

This section of the river is home to a very unquie trout, the Westslope Cutthroat. Generally the cutthroats fished in Alberta are the Eastslope variety, such as the cutty's on our horseback trips, which are native to our waters along with the Bull Trout. The Westslope Cutthroat offers the angler a larger and more colorful fish to cast to especially in this remote river. Because this section of the river is not easily accessed by locals and because of many difficult waterfalls these trout have by and large not had alot of angling pressure over the years.

The portion of this river you will fish is approximately 5 km's in length. Your helicopter ride will be about 28 minutes from the heli pad to your destination where the pilot will lower us down into the canyon safely setting down on a gravel bar at rivers edge. Here we will make camp for the 3 days you will spend walking & wading the river. The river wind's thru the canyon like a snake with a pool on every bend and flats off of every hole. Large rocks also hold place thru out the river giving beautiful hiding places for hungry cutty's.

This is by far one of the most incredible rivers I've been fortunate to have fished. Cutthroat's in access of 20''s are not uncommon with total fish days of over 100, for experienced anglers, not unheard of. This is a remarkable dry fly fishery with stones and hoppers being some of the favorites of anglers and fish.

If you are looking to treat yourselves or experience something different or just simply looking for an incredible fishing trip we suggest you take 3 days out of your life to experience the South Ram River. Please give us a call to learn more about this venture as there is so much more to describe and talk about just to give you a small idea of this amazing experience!
